Whirlwind part 2: belly dancing 09/30/2008
Other times when I was home, knitting or reading and possibly still in my pj's, Sali would bring in the rug from the craft room and turn on the CD player. I would watch, somewhat bashfully, as she would practice her belly dancing. The music and chng, chng, chng, chng of her finger cymbals would fill our cavernous house. It was loud and obtrusive but made my head feel full, like a room filled with wall-to-wall couches, comfortably padded and cozy. My little whirlwind. 09/30/2008
I met Sali in Tucson and was friends with her for two years. In 2007 we lived together for a month, this is what it was like: sally ratty jatty pants 09/30/2008
sally was such an amazing person. i remember when i met her, i was hella young, i was sooooooo afraid to talk to her because she seemed so cool bbut she made me feel so comfortable. later i lived with her in Portland and she would dumpster meat and make all our dogs gormet dog food and play banjo and pull me aside and ask me to watch her belly dance and ask if t looked cool lol. sally is such a genuine person. even if she doesnt know you well she will go out of her way to make you feel ok. sally is so tough and amazing. when i think of her i just have to laugh because the first image that pops in my head is her dirt lines on her neck lol. here is a silly poem i found about sally in a book made for autumn on her first birthday story time 09/29/2008
this is space to share your stories about sali. when you first met, when she made you feel strong, credulous, in love, moments she taught you crazy wisdom, dance techniques, or songs. |
